My name is David Stephen Grant. I'm a composer, music copyist and programmer based in Oslo, Norway. I hold a Master's degree in Film Music Composition and a Bachelor's degree in Composition from the Norwegian Academy of Music, and I work in a wide range of expressions—from experimental chamber music to pop musicals.
I'm very interested in computers and technology, and write my own tools for composition, music notation and other projects. Beside studies in music I have completed programming courses in C++, Bash scripting and Python at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the University of Oslo. For six months in 2017 I also had the pleasure of working as a Software Tester for Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH in London on Dorico—Steinberg's app for professional music notation.
When I'm not writing my own music I work as a copyist for other composers creating digital editions from manuscripts, part extraction from existing digital scores or editing material for publication. I prefer to work in Dorico or Sibelius, but also use Finale, SCORE, MuseScore and Lilypond. I also do some web administration and development.
Below you will find a selection of various projects I have been involved in, and if you would like to get in touch my e-mail address is at the bottom of the page.
